Peter J. Karol

Peter is an associate at Sunstein and an active member of the firm’s IP litigation, trademark, and copyright practice groups.  Peter is an experienced patent and trademark litigator, having brought and defended numerous suits in various federal courts across the country.  Peter also manages global trademark portfolios, with a focus on higher education, wine and distilled spirits, and sports equipment.  He has extensive experience drafting complex IP agreements and licenses.  Peter is also a member of the adjunct faculty of New England Law | Boston.

Experience

  • Manage the trademark portfolio for one of the world’s preeminent universities, and myriad large and small businesses across various industries and technologies. 
  • Represent a leading golf equipment company in multi-forum, multi-patent litigations in United States federal courts.
  • Successfully represented Belvedere Winery with respect to federal infringement litigation concerning the Winery's BELVEDERE trademark.
  • Represented a large wine producer in connection with negotiating a major national distribution agreement and license with a leading U.S. wine distributor.
  • Achieved a precedent-setting district court and appellate victory in the field of computer security software.
  • Brought and defended numerous trademark oppositions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
  • Advised clients engaged in international trademark oppositions before various administrative bodies in Europe, Australia and Asia.
