Justin P. Huddleson, Ph.D.
Justin is an associate at Sunstein where he focuses his practice on prosecuting patent applications in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical and medical device arts. Justin also handles patentability, validity and infringement studies and also becomes involved in patent infringement, copyright and trade secret litigation.

Before law school, Justin worked as a post-doctoral fellow and graduate research assistant at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he received numerous awards for outstanding research and academic performance. His doctoral work involved the design and implementation of biomechanical methods to analyze the effects of fluid shear stress on gene expression levels in vascular endothelial cells. Using pharmacological approaches, he discovered a mechanically activated signal transduction pathway that is responsible for inducing genes that protect against atherosclerosis. He also published numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, wrote funding grants and presented his research at national and international conferences.

Before graduate school, Justin worked for a non-profit clinical research organization where he coordinated phase 1 inpatient and phase 2 outpatient clinical research trials investigating novel pharmacological treatments for heroin and cocaine addiction. He monitored patient safety and compliance, and assured compliance with FDA clinical research protocols.

Before joining Sunstein, Justin completed an internship with the Pro Se Staff Attorneys Office at the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. In this capacity, he evaluated the merits of habeas corpus petitions filed by immigration detainees and federal prisoners. He also prepared recommendations and memoranda on motions filed by pro se litigants at the request of the presiding judicial officer.
