Sunstein is proud to sponsor Discovering Justice's Annual Gala, "Mentoring the Next Generation: Pathways to Civic Engagement"

The Discovering Justice 2021 Virtual Gala will take place on Tuesday, June 8th at 6pm.

Discovering Justice brings together its supporters, partners, volunteers, and students to celebrate its work and raise money to fund its programs. For more than 20 years Discovering Justice has worked with students to examine the workings if the justice system, explore the ideals of justice and prepare them to engage in our democracy.

The Gala raises more than $400,000, which provides thousands of students across Massachusetts with access to enriching civics classrooms, after-school, and in-Courthouse programs that emphasize critical thinking, compassion, empathy, and encourage students to be bold leaders and agents for change in their communities.

This year's event honors Maura Healey as the 2021 Champion of Justice for her tireless work to fight for justice on a state and national level. As the Massachusetts Attorney General, Maura has focused on confronting the devastating opioid epidemic, reducing gun violence, enforcing civil rights, protecting consumers, and addressing the climate crisis. She has also championed access to health care and reproductive freedom.

Prior to starting her career in public service, Maura was a business and commercial litigator at WilmerHale LLP. She also served as a Special Assistant District Attorney for Middlesex County. In 2007, she joined the Attorney General’s Office as Chief of the Civil Rights Division and later became Chief of the Public Protection and Business and Labor Bureaus. During this time, she served as lead counsel in the country’s first successful challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act.

Maura is a graduate of Harvard College, after which she spent two years overseas as a starting point guard on a professional basketball team in Europe. She received her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law.
